Accreditation of the major
The Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement Sciences has been accredited by SINAES since 2005.
Accreditation 2005–2011.
First reaccreditation: 2011–2018.
Second reaccreditation: 2020–2028.
The School began its self-evaluation process by forming a Commission composed of representatives from the administrative staff, students, and faculty, under the coordination of Dr. Carmen Grace Salazar Salas. This team led the actions necessary to assess the quality of the program and prepare the documentation required by SINAES.
On October 13, 2005, SINAES granted accreditation to the Bachelor's Degree in the Teaching of Physical Education, whose certificate was delivered on November 24 of the same year. Following this accreditation, the School implemented an Improvement Plan, with progress reports submitted in 2006, 2008, and 2009.
During this stage, one of the most important achievements was the update of the curriculum and the opening of the Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement Sciences, offered for the first time in the first academic term of 2010.
In 2009, the School resumed the process for reaccreditation, in coordination with the Center for Academic Evaluation (CEA). As a result, SINAES issued Agreement ACUERDO-CNA-134-2011, granting reaccreditation to the Bachelor's Degree in the Teaching of Physical Education and the Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement Sciences, valid until September 2018. This new period included an Improvement Commitment, with progress reports submitted in 2013 and 2015. In 2017, a new self-evaluation process began for the reaccreditation of the Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement Sciences, under the coordination of Dr. Pedro Carazo Vargas.
On April 24, 2020, the program was again reaccredited for eight years through Agreement CNA0792020, valid until April 2028. As part of this cycle, progress reports were submitted in 2022 and 2024. Among the most notable achievements of this period are the opening of the Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement Sciences in 2024 and the redesign of the Bachelor's curriculum, effective from 2026.
In 2026, the program began a new self-evaluation process for reaccreditation, this time under the coordination of Dr. Judith Jiménez Díaz.
What is SINAES and what is evaluated in the Accreditation process?
SINAES is the National System of Higher Education Accreditation of Costa Rica. It is the entity authorized by the State to evaluate and certify the quality of institutions, degree programs, and university programs that voluntarily undergo its evaluation process. Its accreditation ensures that a program meets rigorous criteria of academic excellence and maintains a continuous commitment to improvement.
SINAES has the official authority to certify the quality of higher education in the country, and its evaluations consider aspects such as the curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, and available academic resources.
