As a professor and researcher at the School of Physical Education and Sports and at the Center for Research in Human Movement Sciences (CIMOHU) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Measurement and Evaluation, Statistics for Human Movement Sciences, Research Workshop and Sports Activity.
I also work as a tutor for postgraduate students of the Academic Master's Program of this academic unit.
I have been the coordinator of teaching outreach projects, including projects ED-1482: International Symposium on Sports, Exercise and Health Sciences and ED-3160: Assessment of Physical Health Components. I am the Principal Investigator of a research project that seeks to describe physical, psychosocial and behavioral indicators related to sports performance and health of Costa Rican elite athletes, a project awarded with a Fondo Semilla from the Vice Rector's Office of Research of the UCR.I have had the opportunity to train academically in the field of Human Movement Sciences, Exercise Physiology and Gerontology.
During my doctoral studies, I had the opportunity to be involved in interdisciplinary research projects focused on studying lifestyle and healthy behaviors, including exercise and nutrition, in sexually diverse populations, as well as in the implementation of community-based type II diabetes prevention programs in vulnerable populations at high risk of developing this condition. In general, my research interests are focused on understanding the impact of multi-modal physical exercise interventions on various indicators of health and physical and psychosocial well-being in middle-aged and older adults, as well as describing various characteristics associated with the performance and health of athletes, in order to promote movement as an ally of human health throughout the lifespan.
