Master’s Degree in Human Movement Sciences



The Physical Education and Sports School of the University of Costa Rica has developed the Master's program in Human Movements Sciences to meet the challenge of today's evolving society. This program is capable of deepening and updating knowledge about the sciences of human movement under scientific criteria.

The program's curricular contents are organized according to the following axes:

  • Theoretical Approach
    • It provides a deeper understanding of curricular topics related to physical exercise and health as a vehicle to enhance life quality and create a sportive culture.
  • Methodological-research Approach
    • It provides fundamental tools for research, furthermore, it constitutes the central axis of the curriculum.
  • Academic-professional Activities
    • These are tools to stimulate the acquisition of knowledge and creativity, as well as to take advantage of the student's experience and knowledge throughout academic and professional activities in their specific field of interest.

Before starting their postgraduate studies the students must be accepted by a counselor professor who is in charge of directing and supervising the research project.

In conjunction with the counselor professor, the student will define their area of specialization and will structure the program according to the area.

The student may choose one of the following areas to focus on during the research process.

  • Exercise physiology.

  • Sports Biomechanics

  • Sports Psychology

  • Sports management

  • Sports training.

  • Exercise and health.

  • Aerobic exercise and health.

  • Sports pedagogy.

Admissions process:

Applications will be accepted from May 22 to August 19, 2024, via the link below.

After the submission process, the Graduate Studies System will communicate the list of the students who sent the complete documentation, to be eligible, to the Graduate Studies Department.

The students who appear on this list, shall:

  • Take the entrance exam on January 12, 2024.

  • Conduct an interview and induction process on January 15, 2024.

The costs can be seen in the following link. Please note that the prices increase a little each year, the postgraduate program is regularly financed, and the prices are different for nationals and foreigners (https://oaf.ucr.ac.cr/aranceles).

Note:

Students who are close to completing the bachelor's degree (completing all the courses in this ll Cycle 2023) can put on hold the requirement to present their Bachelor's degree, and once it is received, submit a copy to the postgraduate program.
